A Little Smoke, a Lot of Tradition: Thanksgiving at Edwards Meats

Three generations, one family smokehouse, and more than 60 years of bringing great food to Colorado tables.

There’s something about Thanksgiving that brings us back to our favorite traditions.

Maybe it’s Grandma’s stuffing recipe, the familiar faces gathered around the table, or that one dish everyone looks forward to all year long.

At Edwards Meats, we understand the importance of those traditions. After all, we’ve been part of them since 1962.

And if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that great food has a way of bringing people together.

A Family Tradition Since 1962

When Herb Edwards opened his butcher shop in Wheat Ridge more than six decades ago, he probably couldn’t have imagined just how many family celebrations Edwards Meats would become part of.

What began as a neighborhood meat market grew into a Colorado tradition of its own.

Herb’s son Ernie joined the family business, and eventually Ernie’s son Darin followed in their footsteps. Today, Darin carries on the Edwards family legacy as the third generation to run the shop.

Through the years, the store has grown, the selection has expanded, and generations of Colorado families have made Edwards Meats part of their holiday celebrations.

But some things haven’t changed.

Quality still matters. Personal service still matters. And helping customers bring something delicious home to their families is still what we love to do.

The Smokehouse That Started Something Special

Let’s talk about one of our favorite Edwards traditions: the smokehouse!

Back in 1974, Herb and Ernie Edwards built their first smokehouse to meet growing customer demand for delicious, home-smoked meats.

It turned out to be one of the most important additions in the store’s history.

Over the years, our smokehouse has become a big part of what makes Edwards Meats special. In 2000, Darin introduced a larger, modern smokehouse, allowing us to continue the family tradition on an even bigger scale.

And here’s something we’re proud of: we use real wood smoke, not liquid smoke, to create that wonderful smokehouse flavor.

From our handcrafted bacon and smoked hams to our customer-favorite hickory-smoked turkeys, the smokehouse is a tradition we’re delighted to share.

Especially during the holidays.

A Thanksgiving Favorite Worth Waiting For

If you’ve ever served an Edwards Meats hickory-smoked turkey at Thanksgiving, you know there’s something special about it.

Rich, savory smokehouse flavor. A beautifully prepared holiday centerpiece. And one less thing to worry about when Thanksgiving Day arrives.

Our hickory-smoked turkeys are prepared right here in our own smokehouse, making them a delicious alternative to roasting a traditional turkey at home.

And they’re popular for a reason.

For some families, an Edwards smoked turkey has become just as much a part of the holiday as the stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

If you’d like to make one part of your family’s celebration this year, we encourage you to order early.

More Than Turkey: A Whole Lot of Holiday Goodness

Of course, the smokehouse isn’t the only thing keeping us busy around Thanksgiving!

Whether your family loves a traditional fresh turkey, a beautiful prime rib roast, or a delicious holiday ham, we’re here to help you find the perfect centerpiece.

And don’t forget all those wonderful extras that make Thanksgiving dinner complete.

We’ve got homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry relish, Village Pie Maker pies, and plenty of other holiday favorites to make your celebration delicious.

Because while we love a great turkey, we also know that sometimes the best part of Thanksgiving is going back for another helping of the sides!

The Best Traditions Are the Ones We Share

One of the things we love most about Edwards Meats is seeing familiar faces return year after year.

Customers who came into the shop with their parents are now bringing in their own children and grandchildren.

Recipes get passed down. Holiday menus become family traditions. And somehow, there’s always room at the table for one more good story.

Being part of those moments is what makes our work so rewarding.

This Thanksgiving, whether you’re hosting a houseful of relatives or sharing a quiet meal with a few favorite people, we hope your holiday is filled with delicious food, laughter, and memories worth making.

Great Food. Cherished Traditions. More Time Together.

That’s what Thanksgiving is all about.
